EBSCO Publishing Partners with the Canadian Medical Association to Provide Continuing Medical Education Credits via DynaMed

Ipswich, MA (PRWEB) May 05, 2011

EBSCO Publishing (EBSCO) has partnered with the Canadian Medical Association (CMA) to provide institutional access to Mainpro MI educational credits via DynaMed, an evidence-based reference resource. The integration of DynaMed with the Canadian Medical Association system enables physicians to use DynaMed for research and quickly and easily earn Continuing Medical Education (CME) credits.

Representing more than 74,000 of Canadas physicians, the Canadian Medical Association is the only association that offers automatic transfer of credits to The College of Family Physicians Canada (CFPC). DynaMed is a clinical reference tool created by physicians for physicians and other healthcare professionals for use primarily at the point-of-care. DynaMed contains clinically-organized summaries for more than 3,200 topics; the database is updated daily and can be integrated into electronic health records.

The new partnership with DynaMed enables the CMA to help physicians work towards obtaining their credits through a self-reflective look at their practice while earning continuing medical education credits. Institutional access provides a direct link from clinical summaries within DynaMed to their CMA account to submit searches and receive Mainpro MI educational credits

Stratton Lloyd, vice president of medical market development at EBSCO Publishing, says incorporating CME credits into DynaMed is an essential part of DynaMeds goal to provide clinicians with the best available evidence. DynaMed was created to serve the needs of healthcare professionals. Allowing users to incorporate education into their practice on a daily basis is a natural extension of the DynaMed mission. Institutional access to DynaMed provides clinicians in Canada with a streamlined way to access continuing medical education within the clinical workflow.

CMA members may access DynaMed at http://www.cma.ca/clinicalresources/dynamed. Institutions currently subscribing to DynaMed may have the new CMA CME feature turned on within their subscription at no additional charge. Additional information about DynaMed is available at: http://www.ebscohost.com/dynamed.

ATA Announces First Angel Investing Education Summit

ATLANTA (PRWEB) April 26, 2011

As the economy improves, more and more investors are considering angel investing as a high-growth option to their portfolios, and Atlanta Technology Angels (ATA) is the pre-eminent source in the Southeast that can help. In fact, ATA will host its first full-day educational summit, Angel Investing Overview, on May 17 at the Georgian Club in Atlanta.

The summit will feature the highly acclaimed seminar put on by the Angel Capital Association (ACA). ACA is the trade organization for all U.S. angel groups, and its mission is to support the growth and investment success of its members. ACA has presented the seminar across the country and received the highest marks for the caliber and content of the education.

Even those experienced in this field say how beneficial it is to meet with others and discuss successes and losses. Many consider angel investing the riskiest type of investment, says Devon Wijesinghe, ATA Chairman of Member Services. While that might be true for some, the reality is that this type of investing takes education. And for those who learn how to do it right, it can be by far the most lucrative.

After all, in the angel arena, investing doesnt just involve looking at spreadsheets and forecastsit takes knowing the entrepreneur, understanding the management teams skills, and helping them execute their vision. Angel investors are typically successful entrepreneurs or executives who have exited their companies and have sat in the same seat and seen the same curveballs as the entrepreneurs pitching them.

The entrepreneurs get much more than capital from angel investors. They get human capital, which is far more valuable, notes Michael Horten, ATA board member in charge of the summit.

Those interested in angel investing should plan to attend the upcoming Angel Investing Overview to learn the skills necessary for successful angel investing. The summit will offer panel discussions and other educational sessions, but the majority of time will be spent in interactive sessions for maximum benefit. Topics will include portfolio strategies, company valuation, deal terms, due diligence and exit strategies. This event will include breakfast, lunch and a cocktail reception. More details can be found at: http://www.angelatlanta.com/calendar-of-events/

Cooking Up a Healthy Home: New Mom-Centered Program Uses Education to Fight Diabetes and Childhood Obesity

San Diego, CA (Vocus) July 6, 2010

The Skinny Gene Project launches a new mom-centered program on Facebook to engage moms in conversations about the importance of creating a healthy home to prevent type 2 diabetes and fight childhood obesity.

Skinny Gene Healthy Mommas is the latest in a growing trend of social media-based initiatives created by this award winning organization - recipient of the 2010 #influencesd non-profit of the year award for spreading their message about diabetes prevention in innovative ways.

Consistent with Skinny Genes education-based approach to influence others to make positive lifestyle changes, Skinny Gene Healthy Mommas combines casual Facebook conversations about being a parent with a how-to guide to making healthier food choices and creating a healthier home.

Beginning July, 2010, under the direction of the Skinny Gene Project Registered Dietitian Emily Barr, MS,RD, CNSC , the Skinny Gene Project will offer all members free or low cost interactive nutrition classes (via WebEx webinar) to teach current or aspiring Healthy Mommas how to incorporate nutrient-rich foods into their familys diets.

DLana Dismuke, President of the Board of Directors for the J.Moss Foundation/Skinny Gene Project, states, We are committed to helping communities by focusing on where fundamental education begins, in the home. With Skinny Gene Healthy Mommas, we are providing sound nutritional advice and engaging a community of women interested in providing the very best for their families. Through these efforts, it is our goal to cook up healthy homesone spatula at a time.

The first topic in the Healthy Home Series, How to Balance Your Familys Different Nutritional Needs, will explain the dietary requirements for each child and adult in the household. The class will discuss strategies for meal planning and how to adjust to the ever-changing needs of a growing home.

Group classes allow us to offer solutions in a time when the diabetes epidemic is running ramped and were in desperate need of a nutrition intervention. Whether were sharing information in a group setting or during a 1-on-1 personalized counseling session, our hope is to make our resources accessible to those ready to take steps towards improving their health.

Dates and times for all Healthy Home nutrition classes will be posted on the Skinny Gene Healthy Mommas Facebook wall.

Making changes can be difficult. We wanted to use Facebook as our audience, Adults 21-44, is comfortable in this environment and more likely to join a conversation and share practical advice. This channel also allows us to have an open dialogue in which we offer recommendations on small changes that can be easily executed.

In honor of National Dairy Month, Emily Barr used Skinny Gene Healthy Mommas to create awareness about the importance of eating 3 servings of dairy a day to reduce adipose tissue, also known as belly fat. This topic is of particular interest to Skinny Gene, due to the high correlation between this type of fat and an increased risk for heart disease and type 2 diabetes. Barr offered suggestions on Facebook about how to incorporate low-fat dairy into the daily diet, and she supplemented these tips with the blog post, Getting Rid of the Jiggle Around Your Middle.

Adults are not the only ones who have to worry about the jiggle that some of us have around the middle. As masters of the kitchen, by making healthy choices, parents can single-handedly fight childhood obesity in their homes.

Adult-onset and childhood obesity are exasperated by the lack of nutrient-rich food being consumed in households every day. This can be attributed to both lack of funds and information. Government programs like the Improving Nutrition for Americas Children Act hope to fill the nutritional gaps by addressing the need to provide children with nutritious meals in and out of schools.

The Skinny Gene Project hopes to enrich families lives by providing them with the opportunity to receive the information needed to make healthy choices and embrace a long-term healthy lifestyle.

About Skinny Gene Project

The Skinny Gene Project (a division of the J. Moss Foundation) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to preventing diabetes. We help to educate those who are at-risk; empower them with the resources, tools, and support needed to make healthy lifestyle changes; and teach them how to make the long-term social, environmental, and behavioral changes needed to prevent the onset of type 2 diabetes.
